An incumbent of this position repairs and maintains physical structures, under supervision, using hand and power tools. Paints structures, performs masonry work, and repairs plumbing fixtures and woodwork. Makes repairs to tools and equipment. Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical systems and fixtures including measuring, cutting, bonding, threading, assembling and installing electrical conduit. Moves, installs, and adjusts fixtures, motors, and other electrical/mechanical equipment. Connects power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads. Performs tests on electrical equipment for safety reliance and code compliance. Patches concrete and macadam surfaces. Assists supervisor and other maintenance technicians and performs other duties as assigned. Personal contacts are primarily with BCOC employees in related work or support units.
While performing the duties of this job an incumbent may be exposed to activities near moving mechanical parts, fumes, electrical power sources and outdoor weather conditions. The noise levels in the work environment are moderate to high. The starting time for this position is 7:00 A.M. with a normal 8 hour shift extending Monday through Friday. Due to the nature and travel requirements of this position, the incumbent is subject to work hours in excess of a 40 hour work week; all work hours must be recorded through the payroll time keeping system. The incumbent is subject to emergency call-outs and scheduling outside normally scheduled hours including weekends.
While performing the duties of this job an employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, hear, taste, or smell. An employee must frequently lift and/or move objects exceeding 25 pounds. High School diploma with three to six months related experience and/or training.
Ability to read, analyzes, and interpret technical procedures, governmental regulations and company policies. Ability to prepare reports and to communicate effectively with customer and employee contacts made necessary in the performance of daily work activities.
Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages and to read and interpret schematics and graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Needs to possess average computer skills including knowledge and application of word processing, and excel spreadsheets.

Have the knowledge and skills to perform electrical, mechanical, woodworking, and building and grounds maintenance activities.
Must possess knowledge of electronics and ability sufficient to install and maintain gas/diesel dispensing pumps.

Has the capability to perform tasks in all phases of electrical installations and general maintenance.
